Elgato Is Showing Up as a Black Screen on Obs

Hi zlatan.stanojevic,

Have you tried to uninstall the Skype app, reboot your device, and reinstall the Skype app? If not, please do so.

Once done, let us know if the issue persists, so we can report it to our developers. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.  I just did that.

On my Fedora 31, I removed the skypeforlinux package, ran dnf autoremove, rebooted, and installed skypeforlinux again.  DNF automatically chose the preview version 8.58.76, because it was the newest of available versions.

I connected the capture device and camera to the PC and made sure the input signal is okay using OBS.  Then I ran Skype and checked the settings but the video feed was still blank (as pictured above).

Please let me know if you want me to try something different or if I can provide any additional information.

Dear Kenneth

I have a clue as to what the issue is and a possible workaround.  It seems that Skype for Linux cannot handle 1080 HD resolution.  If I scale the image down to "standard definition", i.e. 1024x567 pixels, the video stream works fine.

I used ffmpeg and a v4l2loopback device to rescale the stream:

ffmpeg -i /dev/video0 -vcodec rawvideo -vf scale=1024:567 -pix_fmt yuv420p -threads 0 -f v4l2 /dev/video2

where /dev/video0 is the Cam Link 4K device and /dev/video2 is the dummy v4l2loopback device.

Here's the result:

If I "transcode" the stream without scaling it down, i.e.

ffmpeg -i /dev/video0 -vcodec rawvideo -pix_fmt yuv420p -threads 0 -f v4l2 /dev/video2

the video stream will be black as with the native Cam Link 4K device.

Thus, I believe that this problem will also occur with other devices/cameras with full-HD (1080) output.

BTW: Microsoft Teams for Linux has exactly the same problem and the workaround can be applied there too.
