How to Fix Black Screen Iphone 2g/3g/4/4s/5
Chosen Solution
I've just had the same problem. You simply need to factory reset your iPhone by connecting to iTunes via the USB port on a computer and restoring the phone.
If your iPhone's 'Find my iPhone' is enabled you will need to use the steps below. (This method resets your iPhone instantly as long as you have it charged)
1. Go to the iCloud website.
2. Log in and click 'Find my iPhone'.
3. Click the ALL DEVICES drop-down and select your broken device.
4. Click the 'Erase iPhone' option.
The Apple logo will appear on your iPhone's screen, and then it will install the basic software.
Thanks :)

The best thing to try is to take the back off and disconnect the battery.
try pressing down on the back of the iphone just above the apple and to the left. this is where the connector for the LCD is. It may have worked itself loose. Hopefully you can reseat it without having to do this.
If that doesn't work and you dont want to take it apart, try plugging it into itunes and put it into the recovery mode. there are posts here that can walk you through that.

I downloaded software called Reiboot which did the trick for me. It's strange that nobody has mentioned it here. It's free and allows you to put your phone into recovery mode and then break out of recovery mode, effectively rebooting your iOS device from your computer. They appear to have a Mac version and Windows version.

I had the same problem.
What happened is last night i was about to sleep i checked my phone and any of the buttons aren't working, of course i went to search how to fix it and most of the suggestions are pressing the lock & home button at the same time for 10-15 seconds but mine didn't work considering i have a broken lock button for months now. and I went to search again and see i wasn't the only one so i felt relieved a bit.
I've read everyone's suggestions here but I did one strategy that worked 100%. What you should do is completely drain your battery (I left mine to drain for 11 hours) and after that you should charge it in the computer and wait. If the low battery sign turned on then u should wait for the apple logo then ur saved.

I had this happen to me last night (iPhone 4S) and my top button has not been working for some time.
I could still use Siri (speak to her and hear her but no see anything) so I knew it was just a screen issue.
I read through many MANY forums the general consensus is to restart the phone, but without one of your buttons working that is difficult. For me it was a combination of solutions;
One person suggested holding the home button and the volume + button together for 25 seconds which can force a restart.
Another suggested running your battery flat, again hard to do when you can't access the screen. So I called my phone A LOT and talked to Siri to run it down.
I think it was a combination of both things because my phone eventually turned itself off. I only know this because Siri stopped responding.
Then I plugged it into a power source and the empty battery icon appeared. About 10-15mins of charge and the screen turned on.
I hope this helps someone else out there.

Due to my lock button being broken and also my home screen was broken, the screen was completely blank but siri worked!
I left my phone over night to completely die then charged it this morning and now it works fine, just a bit slow but i blame that on the IOS 9 update.
I hope this helps someone :)

An easy solution to this is to download vshare onto your computer and then click restart iPhone and it will work! Also you can then use vshare if you like, as an App Store alternative which offers as far as I can tell every paid app on the app store for free

Use siri and tell siri to play music on repeat and let your phone play the music till it dies and then once it has died you can turn it back on by charging it.

It happened to me as well. My lock button doesn't work. What I did is I rebooted it on the software called 'syncios' that Iused whenever I put music on my phone. They have this toolkit section as well where you will just connect your phone to the computer and click 'reboot' or shutdown (because it will automatically restart since it's plug in on your computer). It worked for me

This solution will help only if you have access to the phone with iTunes or have previously backed up the iPhone to your computer. If possible, do a backup of all of the data on your phone. Then head over to iCloud.com, go to Find my iPhone, and hit erase phone. This will do a restore of the phone without requiring you to do anything on the phone itself. Within seconds you will see the apple logo appear and the device will boot. Then, connect to iTunes, restore from backup, and the phone should be right where you left it. Worked for me with the same issue and hope it can help someone else!

hey, i have had this happen to me quite a few times.
my lock button is broken too, so what i do is just wait for the phone to die.
tell siri to play music, maybe it will drain the battery faster
it took about 10 hours for my phone's battery to die on standby after being fully charged

As I was on face time with my mate and I locked my screen, suddenly my phone went black I pressed the home button several times but it didn't work.
My lock screen button hasn't been working for 3 months I was scared because I thought it was permanently damaged the notification sounds worked, but I needed my phone especially because its 3 hours until the new year.
So I suggest draning your battery out fully and plug it to a computer and it will switch on !

Drain your iPhone battery.
If you're having 3G data Switched on, then this should be easy. Use the assistive touch or the home button OR CONNECT AN EARPHONE WITH COMMANDBUTTONS (keep pressing the main button on the earphone to activate siri) and talk to SIRI. Ask random questions to speed the battery draining. Switch on WiFi and Bluetooth to drain battery.
Switch to camera app and take some photos using the volume buttons in a dark room so that it uses flash and drain battery. Once completely drained. Plug it back into power.
You're all set.
Takes time. But. Only the possible solution if you're stuck on a screen with a broken home button.

Hold Home button then insert usb cable to charge, your phone should go to recovery mode (itunes icon will appear on the screen). Then using "Reiboot" software you will be able to exit from recovery mode. Wait till phone reboots completely and you are good to go.

Putting your phone in the freezer for 15 minutes actually works to restart your phone if the home button doesn't work. Make sure to put your phone in a ziplock bag so you avoid the chance of water damage. Once you take your phone out let it sit for 5-7 minutes to warm up a bit. Then hold down the side button for 3 seconds until the apple pops up if that doesn't work then plug your phone in until the apple pops up on the screen. Then your phone will restart and everything will work properly.

My home button is whack and the volume buttons, the draining the battery works fine with me to use my phone again though when i leave my phone unused it goes to oblivion again over and over if leaved unused, idk what's going on but i somehow know when it has started, it started when my phone wont show the volume slider and i looked up for a fix to it and when i found one i deleted the apple.(something).plist and few days later this happened ,so i kinda hoping to find answer to it before deciding to send to the service.

My iPhone 4 screen went all black this morning. I was using assistive touch, so I can't reboot it together with the lock button, witch isn't working to power off anymore. I tried to connect it to iTunes but I need to access the screen to unlock it. Location services was off to save battery, so I can't reboot it with find my iPhone. I didn't back it up on icloud or itunes, which I was going to do it this week. I was hoping to back up the data and find a way to reboot it. I have called from another phone and it's ringing. I have connected the charging cable, but it doesn't show the charging icon either, probably because it's still with battery power. Anyone has experienced something similar? Many thanks in advance.

So my iPhone 6s screen went black and I have no working home button, at the time I had no laptop to download the recommended applications to fix the problem, after spending about 30 minutes fiddling with the phone I discovered that pressing the power off/on button multiple times in succession a screen comes up asking "power off, medical ID and emergency call" I simple swiped power off and my phone is fixed (for now lol)
you have to press the power off button like 10 times as fast as you could. I hope it works for you :)

You can download programming called Reiboot which got the job done for me. It's peculiar that no one has referenced it here. It's free and permits you to place your telephone into recuperation mode and afterward break out of recuperation mode, successfully rebooting your iOS gadget from your PC. They seem to have a Mac variant and Windows adaptation. 192.168.100.1 192.168.1.1 jpg to pdf
